The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has called on staff at the Circle Tax Service Centre in Accra to renew their commitment to discipline, integrity, and professionalism as Ghana aims to meet its domestic revenue goals.
During his visit, Dr. Forson explained that he was there to listen to staff, offer encouragement, and work together on strategies for improving revenue collection. He noted that the country’s revenue targets for the year are conservative but achievable.
“What we need now is commitment, discipline, and integrity in the way we mobilise revenue,” Dr. Forson told employees at the centre.
He outlined three main priorities for strengthening tax collections: reducing outside interference in tax operations, improving compliance measures, and increasing the use of electronic systems to close loopholes and enhance efficiency.
Dr. Forson also stressed the importance of performance-based accountability within tax offices. He said he would recognize officers who achieve strong results while holding accountable those whose actions or lack thereof harm tax office operations or national revenue efforts.
“Ghana cannot afford anything less,” he said, urging personnel to meet these expectations as part of a push toward a more robust and equitable revenue system.
