A delegation from the Exim Bank of China visited Sierra Leone as part of a five-day working tour. The group met with Minister of Finance Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura at his office in Freetown on July 11, 2025.
The delegation included Wang Hongjie and Li Wantong, both Country Officers of the Sovereign Business Department at the Exim Bank of China. Wang Hongjie stated that their mission aimed to explore future financing demands and cooperation opportunities, examine the economy and debt situation, review fiscal and monetary policy, and assess ongoing projects funded by the bank.
Discussions during the meeting covered resources for loan models, government revenue from mining, and other macroeconomic indicators. Minister Bangura acknowledged the Exim Bank of China’s role as an active partner with a growing portfolio in Sierra Leone’s digital space.
He highlighted a recent joint venture with a Chinese firm to invest in mining infrastructure like energy, roads, and rails to increase mineral value. Both parties discussed potential intervention ideas for future investment by the Exim Bank of China. The delegation plans further meetings with other ministries involved in projects funded by the bank.
