On July 21, 2025, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission welcomed a delegation from the Arab Republic of Egypt. The delegation was led by Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two parties.
The meeting took place at ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. It included Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development in West Africa.
Discussions covered political transitions, regional security challenges, and ECOWAS’s role in implementing free movement within the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
ECOWAS emphasized its priorities for regional integration: consolidating peace through mediation mechanisms, developing agricultural and infrastructure sectors, and promoting the private sector for inclusive growth.
Minister Abdelatty praised ECOWAS’s commitment to regional stability and expressed Egypt’s willingness to enhance collaboration with the organization through dialogue and partnerships.
The Egyptian delegation also included Ambassador Mohammed Fouad, Mr. Tamim Khallaf, Counsellor Ahmed Moharram, Mr. Hussein Shoukry, and Third Secretary Marc Hani.
