Edun praises retiring finance secretary Jafiya; urges successor Omachi to uphold high standards

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has commended outgoing Permanent Secretary, Finance (PSF), Lydia Shehu Jafiya, for her 35 years of service in the public sector.

At a retirement reception held in Abuja, Edun praised Jafiya’s career and highlighted her dedication to public service. “Your capacity to serve is truly amazing, and we appreciate the sacrifices you’ve made,” Edun said. He encouraged the new PSF, Raymond Omachi, to follow Jafiya’s example. Edun also emphasized the importance of continuity in government operations.

The event was attended by various dignitaries including executive governors, ministers, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, permanent secretaries, Accountant General of the Federation, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of agencies under the Ministry, directors from within the Ministry, traditional rulers and family members.

In her remarks at the event, Jafiya expressed gratitude to colleagues and staff for their support throughout her career. She congratulated Omachi on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to perform well in his new role. “I am humbled by the overwhelming show of love and support,” she said. “I will forever cherish the memories and experiences gained during my time in the civil service.”

Raymond Omachi pledged to build upon Jafiya’s legacy. He thanked her for her contributions and assured both Wale Edun and Minister of State for Finance Doris Uzoka-Anite that he would work closely with them to achieve ministry objectives.

Jafiya also acknowledged her family’s support and credited God’s guidance as important factors throughout her career.

As Lydia Jafiya retires from federal civil service, she leaves behind a record marked by commitment and selfless service. The Ministry extended its best wishes for her retirement and success to Raymond Omachi as he assumes his new responsibilities.
