The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is conducting a technical review meeting for the second pilot version of its web-based Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) system in Abuja, Nigeria. The event is organized by the Directorate of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (SPME) in collaboration with the Directorate of External Relations.
The session brings together representatives from various ECOWAS directorates, institutions, departments, and agencies to assess both technical and operational aspects of the upgraded PME platform. The main goal is to ensure that the system meets organizational needs, aligns with operational workflows, and gains institutional support before its final launch.
During the meeting, participants are shown new features and functionalities introduced after feedback from the first pilot phase. They provide input on usability, workflow integration, data entry processes, and reporting capabilities. The review also evaluates how well the platform matches ECOWAS’s strategic planning cycle and results-based management framework.
Attendees will help populate the platform with data related to ECOWAS projects, locations, and objectives. They are tasked with identifying any remaining issues or improvements needed prior to full deployment. A clear roadmap outlining necessary refinements, timelines, key activities, and capacity-building requirements will be developed as part of this process.
The expected result is a technically improved PME platform validated by experts for a final pilot phase before organization-wide implementation. According to organizers: “The initiative underscores the Commission’s commitment to strengthening evidence-based planning, effective monitoring, and results-oriented decision-making in the implementation of ECOWAS programmes and projects.”
Founded in 1975 as a regional intergovernmental body for cooperation among West African countries, ECOWAS focuses on harmonizing policies in areas like trade and transport to promote economic growth and stability across member states.
