The ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development (CCDG) is set to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 5, 2025, at the Azalai Hotel in Dakar, Senegal. The event aims to highlight the significant contributions of women in the ECOWAS region and advocate for their rights and access to opportunities.

ECOWAS aligns its theme with the United Nations’ focus on “For all women and girls: rights, equality and empowerment.” As part of this initiative, a Partnership Agreement will be signed between ECOWAS and Senegal’s Ministry for the Family and Solidarity. This agreement involves ECOWAS supporting a production unit for sanitary pads in Senegal.

Recognizing challenges such as limited access to quality healthcare, ECOWAS is aiding three Member States in establishing manufacturing units for sanitary pads and diapers. These efforts target teenagers, women with obstetric fistula, and elderly women.

The project aims to prevent school dropouts among teenage girls by improving learning conditions. It also seeks to enhance reproductive health support for women with obstetric fistula and improve the well-being of elderly women with urinary retention issues.

The ceremony will include representatives from various sectors including civil society organizations, NGOs focused on health issues like obstetric fistula, women’s networks involved in sanitary towel production, students, pupils, affected women, and beneficiaries of EGDC programs.
