The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has been actively observing the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Ghana. The observation mission, headed by H.E. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, a former Vice President of Nigeria, took place on December 7, 2024.

To ensure comprehensive coverage of the electoral process across Ghana’s regions and districts, ECOWAS deployed a team comprising twenty-one long-term observers and one hundred and twenty short-term election observers. These teams were spread out across all 16 regions and 216 districts in the country.

Following his visits to several polling units, Mohammed Namadi Sambo commented on the peaceful nature of the voting process. He leads the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission for these elections.

The involvement of ECOWAS aligns with its commitment to support both the people and government of Ghana during their electoral processes as outlined in the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance established in 2001.
