Dr Abdoulie Janneh, who leads the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission (EOM) in Guinea, continued meetings to review preparations for the country’s presidential election scheduled for December 28, 2025.

On December 26, Dr Janneh met with Dansa Kourouma, President of Guinea’s National Transition Council (CNT), and representatives from civil society. The following day, he held discussions with leaders from other election observation missions, including those of the African Union, the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the Mano River Union, and ambassadors from ECOWAS Member States accredited to Guinea.

During his meeting with the head of the CNT—Guinea’s legislative body—Dr Janneh emphasized the importance of transparent, free, and credible elections. He stated that such conditions are “essential for the acceptance of the results by the competing candidates, thereby contributing to the preservation of social peace and stability in the country.”

Dr Janneh also spoke with members of various Guinean civil society organizations involved in election monitoring. These included representatives from CNOSCG, CONASOC, Dynamique Œil du Citoyen (Citizen’s Eye), ROSE, and PCUD. He asked about their readiness to observe the upcoming presidential vote.

Civil society groups expressed their commitment to work alongside ECOWAS in assessing whether the election meets impartiality, transparency and democratic standards. They stated their aim is to help ensure compliance with these principles during all stages of voting.

Praising their role in monitoring electoral processes, Dr Janneh encouraged civil society actors “to support all the bodies involved and political actors to ensure that voting and the announcement of results take place under the best possible conditions.”
