The Directorate of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation is holding a workshop titled “Workshop to Develop Core Indicators for ECOWAS Vision 2050” from February 16 to 20, 2026, in Niger State, Nigeria. Representatives from ECOWAS Institutions, Departments, and agencies are participating.

The main goal of the workshop is to provide ECOWAS Vision 2050 with a comprehensive list of core indicators. These indicators will help stakeholders and decision-makers track progress toward achieving the vision’s objectives and support strategic decision-making.

According to organizers, the workshop will focus on establishing a list of core indicators for each pillar based on existing indicators used by ECOWAS Institutions and Agencies. It will also identify data sources in member states for generating these indicators and develop a comprehensive reference sheet for each indicator, including data collection methodology and manuals.

Key outputs expected from the workshop include a finalized list of core indicators, reference sheets, and data collection methodologies for use in monitoring ECOWAS Vision 2050.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) aims to advance cooperation among its member states through harmonized policies in areas such as trade, transport, agriculture, and social development. These efforts are intended to improve living standards and promote stability across the region. More information can be found on their official website.

ECOWAS programs currently target twelve West African countries but aim to extend their reach throughout the broader region. The organization works under its treaty mandate to align economic, trade, and legal frameworks among members using mechanisms like common external tariffs. Policy influence is achieved by harmonizing systems across sectors such as infrastructure and social development (source). The commission is led by a president with support from a vice president and commissioners (source). In 2022, ECOWAS launched a multilingual website to enhance accessibility and transparency regarding its activities (source).
