The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is conducting a significant training session for women leaders from June 27 to June 29, 2024, at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. The event has gathered women leaders from member states who are engaged in community development and peace-building initiatives.

The training aims to recognize and enhance the contributions of women in fostering peace and socio-economic development. By equipping them with additional knowledge and skills, the initiative seeks to promote a culture of peace and stability within their communities. This effort is supported by the “ECOWAS Reference Manual on Education for the Culture of Peace.”

Key sessions include guided discussions led by expert resource persons on various modules such as Culture of Peace, Civism & Citizenship, Gender, Peace & Development Perspective, and Regional Integration. These discussions aim to foster strategic dialogue on enhancing peace and stability through innovative approaches and collaborative efforts.

The workshop commenced with an opening remark by Honorable Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs Prof. Fatou Sow Sarr. The program also included the establishment of a bureau and interactive sessions designed to maximize participant engagement and learning outcomes.

ECOWAS remains committed to continuing its training programs for member states and other stakeholders on Education for the Culture of Peace. This commitment underscores its dedication to fostering a peaceful and integrated West Africa, thereby improving socio-economic development across the region.
