The Administration and Finance Committee (AFC) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held an extraordinary session from November 29 to 30, 2025, to address staffing needs and the recruitment process within its institutions.
During the meeting, AFC Chairman H.E. Komba Momoh highlighted the importance of maintaining adequate staffing levels in light of recent changes within ECOWAS. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the Commission is adequately staffed despite the exit of the Alliance of the Sahel States (AES),” he said.
H.E. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, reiterated the organization’s commitment to unity and operational continuity after staff departures from three AES member states. She discussed current financial challenges, including reduced community levy contributions, and stressed the urgent need to fill vacant D and P5 positions through a transparent recruitment process overseen by an independent firm.
“Your approval is crucial at this critical juncture in our organisation’s history. As we navigate the challenges posed by the withdrawal and the low community levy contributions your guidance will enable us to move forward with the recruitment process, ensuring that our organisation is equipped to deliver on its mandate and meet the needs of our community,” she stated.
The committee called for collaboration among members as ECOWAS continues institutional adjustments following recent member withdrawals.
