The Standing Committee on Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the ECOWAS Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) held discussions with Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, the ECOWAS Commission’s Commissioner of Political Affairs, Peace and Security. The meeting took place on July 10, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the PRC and the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security. They also aimed to enhance strategic information flow and implement decisions made by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

Led by His Excellency Musa Sani Nuhu, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, the ambassadors expressed appreciation for the partnership with the Commissioner and his department over the past three years regarding peace and stability in West Africa.

Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah congratulated Sierra Leonean High Commissioner Julius Sandy on his country’s new role as Chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. He emphasized the importance of ongoing interactions with ambassadors.

Accompanied by Dr. Cyriaque Agnekethom, Director of Peace Keeping and Regional Security (DPKRS), Gen. Mactar Diop, Chief of Staff of the ECOWAS Standby Force, and other staff members from his department, Ambassador Musah highlighted their commitment to sustainable peace, security, stability, and regional integration.

He stressed creating an organic way to feed into decision-making processes that are binding on stakeholders. “There is a need to think regionally,” he stated. “We need that two-way communication between the Department and Member States.”

Permanent Representatives assured continuous cooperation with the Department to advance regional goals.
