The Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has inaugurated a new seven-member Board for the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). The Board is tasked with ensuring an accurate and reliable data system to aid the country’s development.

During the inauguration, Hon. Ampem Nyarko emphasized the importance of good data in decision-making, particularly when resources are scarce. He urged the Board members to exhibit strong leadership and produce accurate, relevant, and timely data to support national development efforts.

Hon. Ampem Nyarko also assured the Board of the government’s full support in fulfilling their responsibilities.

The newly appointed Board is chaired by Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, former General Secretary of the Ghana Trade Union Congress. Other members include Government Statistician Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, Mrs. Nelly Mireku from the Ministry of Finance’s Research Department, Dr. Zakaria Mumuni, Prof. Mariama Awumbila, Dr. Philomena Nyarko, and Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor.

Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah expressed gratitude on behalf of the committee to President John Mahama and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for their trust in appointing them to this role. He outlined several strategies intended to support key government initiatives.
