BUA Cement Plc has commissioned a series of community development projects in Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto State. The event took place on February 18, 2025, and included the commissioning of solar-powered boreholes, distribution of school uniforms, and donation of cement to local communities.
Managing Director and CEO Engr Yusuf H. Binji led the initiative. He addressed stakeholders at the event and said, “Our success is intrinsically linked to the well-being of these communities.” Boreholes were installed in several villages such as Illela (2), Gidan Bazamfare, Gidan Maituta, Gidan Gamba, Gidan Baduwa, and Almajiri School Kalambaina. Other projects involved setting up 50 solar streetlights at Asare village, providing 25 electric poles and wiring for Gidan Yaro, and renovating five toilets at Almajiri School.
School uniforms were distributed to five primary schools: Gidan Bailu/Gidan Datti Primary School received 1,390 sets; Sabon Garin Alu Primary School received 1,600 sets; Gidan Boka Primary School got 348 sets; Gantsare Primary School got 310 sets; and Gidan Gamba Primary School received 552 sets.
Engr Binji emphasized BUA Cement’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility. “We aim to create shared value for all stakeholders,” he said. He encouraged beneficiaries to maintain the projects and assured them that BUA would continue supporting future needs.
The chairman of Wamakko LGA, Alhaji Umar Ahmed Dudaye, thanked BUA Cement for its efforts and expressed hope for continued support from the company.
Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu was represented by Honorable Commissioner of Water Resources Alh Aminu Dodo Iya during the official commissioning ceremony. In his address, Alh Aminu Dodo Iya stated that these projects show how collaboration between government, private sector, and communities can drive meaningful change. “Community development is the cornerstone of any thriving society,” he said.
He further added: “The commissioning of these projects reflects our shared vision of a better future for Sokoto State,” emphasizing the significance of infrastructure improvements such as clean water access and educational facilities. He called on all stakeholders—government agencies, companies like BUA Cement, traditional leaders, and residents—to work together for inclusive growth: “Let us identify challenges and co-create solutions that benefit everyone.”
Alh Aminu Dodo Iya encouraged residents to participate in maintaining the new facilities: “True development happens when we collectively contribute to its success.” On behalf of Governor Aliyu and Sokoto State’s people he thanked BUA Cement: “May Allah bless BUA Group and its leadership.”
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to creating an environment where such initiatives can succeed. The event highlighted public-private partnerships’ role in improving living standards across Sokoto State.
