Experts from Cape Verde, Guinea, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau, and Sierra Leone are gathering in Conakry, Guinea, to discuss the memorandum of understanding for the Amilcar Cabral submarine cable project. The meeting takes place on October 10-11, 2024. Technical and financial partners are also present to analyze the project’s objectives.

The project aims to support digital development by providing international connectivity infrastructure. It seeks to improve Cabo Verde’s network integration with West Africa and enhance regional projects like regional roaming implementation. Additionally, it intends to increase international capacity in the ECOWAS region for internet growth and ensure connectivity redundancy for The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.

Organized by the ECOWAS Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU), the meeting was inaugurated on October 10 by Mrs. Rose Pola PRICEMOU, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy of Guinea. The event was attended by H.E Louis Blaise AKA-BROU, ECOWAS Resident Representative to Guinea.

Minister Rose Pola PRICEMOU highlighted in her opening speech that “this submarine cable is not just a simple infrastructure; it is a vital artery for our digital future.”
