AGC Nigeria, a health care innovation startup, on Monday was named Startup of the Year at the Nigeriacom Entrepreneurs Hug held in Lagos, Nigeria.

AGC Nigeria, a startup from Obafemi Awolowo University, was one of the scores of startups that vied for the critically acclaimed Pitch & Win event organized by Informa UK in collaboration with Wennovation Hub and Disrupt Africa.

“Nigerian Universities are setting pace in innovation and entrepreneurship and I am happy Obafemi Awolowo University is also doing fine in this realm,”

Wennovation Hub Operations Director Moshood Abdullateef said. “The young man from AGC Nigeria said his startup was an offshoot of his final year research work in the Faculty of Pharmacy. This is what we are pushing for – every Nigerian graduate should be an entrepreneur.”

Four out of the five top teams pitched before a panel of judges that included Chukwuemeka Afigbo of Google, Paul Adepoju of Innovation Village, and Wole Odetayo of Wennovation Hub. Odetayo, the managing partner of Wennovation Hub who gave the opening remarks, emphasized the significance of mentorship in the success story of startups.
