H.E. President Adama Barrow, Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has delivered a message in observance of the International Day for Combating Islamophobia. This day is recognized annually on March 15th and emphasizes fostering peace, respect, and understanding among all faiths.

President Barrow highlighted that “Islam is a religion of peace, compassion, and beauty,” with teachings focusing on justice and mercy. He quoted the Holy Quran: “Whoever saves one life, it is as if they have saved all of humanity” (5:32), underscoring the value Islam places on every individual.

This year’s observance coincides with Ramadan, a period of spiritual renewal and reflection. President Barrow noted this timing highlights the contrast between acts of kindness seen during Ramadan and the misconceptions fueling Islamophobia globally.

He addressed ongoing issues faced by some due to their faith, stating that discrimination undermines justice and human dignity. “Islamophobia divides societies, breeds hostility, and threatens the harmony we strive to build in an increasingly interconnected world,” he said.

The President called for united action against Islamophobia through dispelling stereotypes, challenging hate speech, and building understanding. He urged leaders to ensure no community is marginalized due to religion.

As the day is observed, President Barrow encouraged reaffirming commitment to promoting Islam’s true essence—peace, respect, and love shared by major faiths—and standing against bigotry.

“Together, we can create a world wherein everyone, regardless of their faith, can live in an environment where they are cherished and safe,” he concluded.
