Chinese ambassador discusses environment protection, climate change with Sierra Leone

Chinese Ambassador Zhao Yanba met with Haddijatou Jallow, executive chairperson of the Environment Protection Agency-Sierra Leona Tuesday to discuss climate change and protecting the environment.

Jallow noted that she appreciated China’s support for the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone. According to Jallow, her country is the third most vulnerable in the world when it comes to climate change, as floods and droughts caused by the change creates severe negative impacts on national development. She also stated that her country will continue to look to China for guidance due to its advanced experience and technology.

Ambassador Zhao stated that he believes environmental protection is the common responsibility of the whole world. According to Zhao, China has a great deal of experience in environmental protection because of its own history as the largest developing country. Together, Zhao believes bilateral cooperation can provide long-term progress for socio-economic development in Sierra Leone.
