The Nigerian Corn Growers Association Director Edwin Uche met with the U.S. National Corn Growers Association Tuesday to discuss his association's efforts.

Uche held a number of discussions on increasing corn demand in Nigeria and encouraged an understanding of biotechnology and ethanol industry growth. He also discussed the dual purpose of corn as both food and fuel and said he hopes to have American corn exported to his region in Africa when the market is right.

Currently, pollinated varieties of corn are common in Africa, and Uche said that he hopes Nigeria would soon be able to obtain the technology to prevent the ongoing consumption of the lesser varieties of corn in his country. Uche is a supporter of biotechnology and looks forward to the implementation of more biotechnology in Nigeria.

The meeting was coordinated by Dr. Richard Vierling, and it is hoped that the relationship between the associations in Nigeria and America will continue to grow.
