EU representative participates in Gbarnga-Ganta-Guinea Border road dedication

Emma Sundblad, European Union chargé d/affaires a.i., participated in the dedication of the Gbarnga-Ganta-Guinea Border road March 7.

At the event, Sundblad spoke of the EU’s continued support of the Liberian government in establishing the system of roads.

“The European Union and other European donors are extremely proud to be part of this highly successful project managed by the government of Liberia with the support of the World Bank: good roads are a key factor for economic and social development and also of security,” Sundblad said.

Sundblad spoke at the event as a representative of the Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund donors. This fund includes the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Sweden and Norway in addition to the European Union.

The European Union made Liberia a priority in its plan for the West African Coastal Corridor, providing funds for the Sanniquelli-Danane stretch that connects Liberia to the Ivory Coast. At the core of this plan is Ganta and the idea of it becoming a dry port serving three countries.
