The Economic Community of West African States, the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa, the Community of Sahel-Saharan States, the Coordinator of the UN Systems and the International Organisation of the Francophonie recently convened to discuss Niger's elections.

During the meeting, the Heads of Missions attempted to persuade political figures to follow the rules and regulations laid down by the Constitutional Court; the Heads of Missions hoped that politicians would ultimately respect the principles and values of a proper electoral process.

The elections were held Feb. 21.

In addition to urging cooperation from political figures, the heads also invited Nigerien citizens to exercise their right to vote calmly and respectfully.

The meeting ended with praise from the Heads of Missions over the peaceful environment that surrounded the electoral campaign.

It was ultimately agreed that the sustained composure of Nigeriens exhibited the nation's collective political maturity in the West African nation.
