WAHO, OSHD meeting addresses Ebola

Delegates from the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and the Human and Social Development Department (OSHD) of the African Development Bank met Feb. 25 to discuss the Ebola epidemic and improve living conditions in Africa.

The meeting was held at the bank's headquarters in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.

Sunita Pitamber, acting director of OSHD, lauded the partnership. The bank committed nearly $220 million to support the Ebola-affected regions of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Laurent Assogba, WAHO's deputy director general, awarded a certificate of recognition for the bank's support toward addressing the Ebola outbreak.

The collaboration between the health organization and bank supports several of the bank's strategic priorities, such as regional integration, industrialization and improvement of the living conditions in areas of Africa.
