AfDB to finance Sierra Leone power-plant project

The African Development Bank (AfDB) said recently that it has agreed to finance a 50-megawatt power-plant and pipeline project in Kissy,  Sierra Leone.

AfDB will put up $20 million to cover the costs of construction and operation for the project, which will include heavy-fuel-oil interconnection facilities and a fuel pipeline running through the village of Kissy, near Freetown.

Presently, only 10 percent of Sierra Leone's population has access to electric power. The new plant is expected to boost  generation capacity by 60 percent and stimulate private investment. Once in operation, it will become Sierra Leone's largest base-load electric plant.

The plant will power residential and commercial interests.

Tempus Constant Qualitas Power Limited (TCQ) and CEC Africa Investment Limited (CECA) will oversee the project.
