Jibril Aku, Ecobank Nigeria Limited's managing director, will step down from that post and begin working in another senior role at the bank in early 2016, Ecobank Nigeria said recently.

Bank policy limits the time a managing director can serve at the bank to five years.

“I am proud of what the team and I have achieved together, and I thank them for the good work and their unwavering commitment to Ecobank," Aku said. "Our board stood with us  and was steadfast in its support. I must, therefore, extend my sincere appreciation to the board and the team. Despite some of the market challenges that we faced over the years, our customers have always been loyal, and it is their patronage that led to the achievements we see today.”

Before coming to Ecobank in 2010, Aku worked for Citibank (Nigeria International Bank) and Afribank, where he worked as executive director for operations and technology.

Ecobank Nigeria Limited is a subsidiary of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI).

“Jibril has been instrumental in leading the Ecobank franchise to its position in the Nigeria banking industry today," ETI Group CEO Ade Ayeyemi said.
