UN Foundation presents award to Africa Against Ebola Trust

The United Nations Foundation recognized the Africa Against Ebola Trust with its 2015 Global Leadership Award Nov. 3 in New York City.

"We share the pride and honor of the outstanding work by Africa's leading entrepreneurs in partnering with, and supporting the African Union,” African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma said. “Given the results of this innovative partnership and the effective model for health financing, we will continue to work together with the Trust as we move to a broader challenge of setting up the Africa Centre for Disease Control."

The Africa Against Ebola Solidarity Trust is dedicated to the fight against the Ebola disease. The Trust and AU have partnered to contribute $30 million to the cause and to deploy more than 850 healthcare workers to affected areas in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

"This unique and historic private sector initiative sought not only to confront Ebola today, but to strengthen health systems to be ready for the threats of tomorrow," former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said.

The Africa Against Ebola Solidarity Trust is a registered charity, in partnership with the African Union and was launched on Nov. 8, 2014, in Addis Ababa.
