Ghana’s frontline border officials improve Ebola preparedness

Training workshops were established at eight points of entry in Ghana to educate port officials on Ebola preparedness from July 28 to October 2.

The workshops were organized by IOM Ghana as part of its Ebola (EVD) preparedness project and were for officials at the Tema and Takoradi ports; Kotoka international airport; and the Elubo, Aflao, Paga, Hamile and Sampa border crossing points to prepare them to include EVD and other communicable disease surveillance in their daily routines.

Topics covered included the importance of wearing gloves and other personal protective equipment; shortages and improper use of such equipment caused the deaths of countless doctors, nurses and healthcare workers in the face of the Ebola outbreak in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
