President Adama Barrow Delivers Address at 15th OIC Islamic Summit

President Adama Barrow of The Republic of The Gambia, also serving as the Chairman of the 15th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Islamic Summit, delivered a heartfelt address to esteemed attendees on May 4, 2024.

Barrow began his speech by warmly welcoming all the dignitaries, delegates, and guests to the summit, expressing his honor and privilege to host the event in The Gambia. He extended gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia for his support in making the summit possible.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the Muslim world, Barrow emphasized the importance of unity, dialogue, and sustainable development. He highlighted the theme of the summit, "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue and Sustainable Development," as a crucial step towards addressing conflicts and promoting peace.

The President pledged to prioritize initiatives that enhance economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and address pressing issues such as poverty and access to education and healthcare within the Islamic world. He also called for diplomatic solutions and humanitarian assistance in conflict-ridden regions.

Regarding the conflict in Palestine, Barrow urged Member States to work towards a just and lasting solution, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive peace conference and endorsing a two-state solution for peace and sovereignty.

In solidarity with South Africa's pursuit of justice at the International Court of Justice against Israel, Barrow commended the collective commitment to human rights and justice. He also highlighted The Gambia's efforts in pursuing legal proceedings against Myanmar for human rights violations against the Rohingya people.

Under The Gambia's Chairmanship of the OIC, Barrow reiterated the commitment to promoting solidarity, unity, and problem-solving among Member States. He emphasized the importance of economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and religious tolerance within the Muslim world.

In conclusion, President Adama Barrow expressed hope that the summit would pave the way for a world of peace, security, and prosperity for all generations, calling for a recommitment to justice, equality, and mutual respect among Member States.
