Cultural Development: ECOWAS Awards Prizes to Young Artists at MASA d’Abidjan

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) recently awarded prizes to young artists at the closing ceremony of the 13th Edition of the Marché des Arts du Spectacle d’Abidjan (MASA) 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire. The winners of the ECOWAS Prizes were recognized for their talent and creativity, with the aim of promoting cultural development in the region.

H.E. Fanta Cisse, the Resident Representative of ECOWAS to Côte d’Ivoire, highlighted the organization's commitment to supporting cultural industries and fostering the professionalization of artists. She emphasized the importance of using arts and culture to promote integration, social cohesion, peace, and socio-economic development in West Africa.

The winners of the ECOWAS Prize at the 13th Edition of MASA were Nin’wlou from Côte d’Ivoire, who won the Prize for the best young slam poet in West Africa for his show "The Fire Walk," and Bappa Oumar from the Republic of Guinea, who received the Prize for the best young comedian in West Africa for his show "The Stranger."

ECOWAS has been awarding prizes in these categories for young artists for four editions of MASA, with the aim of supporting and encouraging artistic creativity among the youth. The organization plays a crucial role in the overall organization of MASA, demonstrating its dedication to using arts and culture as a tool for promoting peace and regional integration in West Africa.
