Technology use in the West African nation of Nigeria is growing rapidly as is evidenced by recent statistics, showing that 16 million in Nigeria visit social media site Facebook each day.
Facebook officials recently visited Nigeria to find out how people were using the site and what would make it better for them; already, 100 percent of Nigerian users access Facebook via the site's mobile app.
“This is the year we deepen our partnerships with Nigerian businesses," Nunu Ntshingila, head of Africa for Facebook, said. "We’re committed to Nigeria, and during this visit we shared insights with our business and agency partners on how to deliver personalized marketing, at scale, where people are – on their mobile phone. We want to make sure Nigeria -- its people, its agencies and its businesses -- realizes the opportunity that technology and mobile bring.”
Ntshingila called Nigerians "sophisticated mobile users."
"This sophistication is increasing fast," he said. "People are ahead of businesses, and we’re here to help businesses create mobile-first solutions to grow their business.”
Feb. 4 marked Facebook's 12th anniversary and was dubbed by the site as "Friends Day."
“For us, Friends Day in Nigeria was about hearing the stories of our community using Facebook our platform to grow and connect with others,"
Nicola Mendelsohn, vice president, EMEA for Facebook, said. "We have made amazing progress over the past year. We’re only 1 percent done in Nigeria and inspired to do even more in this fast-moving, mobile first country.”
