UN rep urges media to support Africa's SDGs

Oluseyi Soremekun, national information officer for the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Lagos, recently asked Nigerian media outlets to promote Africa's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Soremekun made an appearance this week on "Civil Society (C.S) Weekly," a program on Radio One 103.5 FM, where he spoke on the subject.

"The media should develop a variety of programs within the framework of the SDGs to widen the knowledge base of their audiences," Soremekun said.

Soremekun pointed out that UNIC Lagos planned to translate the SDGs into four languages: Pidging English, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba.

“UNIC Lagos, on Jan. 1, 2016, launched the '17 – 17 SDGs campaign' on social media to reach the bulk of youths who socialize every second on the social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter,” he said.

Soremekun said UNIC Lagos also planned to promote the SDGs through school outreach, media outreach and programs on climate change and the SDGs.
